Shades of Grey...Not Fifty, Only Two

No, this is not going to get saucy on everybody this Monday morning. Sorry ladies...and maybe some men. Although, I did purchase the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, I had to see what all the buzz was about.

However, this is an update on the dining room project...
I LOVE THE DINING ROOM!
I used two different shades of grey, Glidden Olivewood on the walls and Glidden Grey Mountain on the ceiling.

It looks so sharp and will soon be trimmed out in crown molding and a nice ceiling medallion, like the one below to really frame out the dark shade of grey on the ceiling.

I'm making some headway.I cannot wait to refinish these pocket doors and do a little repair work so they can slide like new again. That is about as close to closed as we can get them.

I trimmed out the doorways and baseboards last Friday night.

Put first coat of paint up on the walls and ceiling last Saturday and second coat on the wall Sunday and...

I ran out of paint for the ceiling. 

I originally purchased only a quart for the ceiling, stupid I know, then had my mom pick up a second quart on Saturday morning and ran out again. I will use a gallon for everything from now on.

I second-coated the ceiling last Monday after work.

I am making progress on my to-do list, check it out...

Dining Room total to-do list

1. Spackle and repair walls where nail holes are, old phone is and door knob hole.

2. Sand down walls and trim.

3. Remove baseboards (job for Nathan)
4. Paint ceiling a lighter version of wall (or darker possibly...hmm)
5. Paint walls a warm taupe-gray
6. Paint trim including the unistalled pieces. (We can touch them up after they are installed.)
7. Re-install window trim and put up new pine baseboards
8. Paint and install a ceiling medallion that surrounds the base of the light fixture.
9. Replace ceiling fan with an oil rubbed bronze/wrought iron fixture, that Nathan and I both like(there's the challenge.)
10. Put up drapery rod in a matching finish to the light fixture...or possibly painted red...hmm
11. Find a large-scale pattern floor-length drapes for the window. I am leaning toward a neutral background with a blue ikat pattern.
12. Remove carpet and replace with an engineered hardwood.
13. Find a buffet with legs, no wider than 54" wide.
14. I want RED! Either a red lamp on the the buffet or a red crackle painted buffet.

I received my new chandelier last week! It looks great and Nathan and I both like it and we scored a major deal on it. As it retails for $660. I purchased through a Joss & Main lighting event.

I plan to paint the existing door trim sometime soon, as well as ordering new window trim. I will need to paint the crown molding, window trim and the ceiling medallion. Then I will be ready to install the crown molding when the boys are done in the field. We are going to try and tackle the tricky business ourselves. How to Install Crown Molding

Hope you all love the colors as much as I do. I am glad that I followed my gut and went with the darker color on the ceiling. With the medallion and crown molding, I think it will really make a statement.
